SPOTLIGHT

Assignments, the exhibition and book focuses on the “single image”, “the moment”. Press Photographers are a very diverse group of people producing a very diverse body of work from single images to complete photo-essays. The aim of SPOTLIGHT is to provide a platform for presenting photo-essays, showcasing this diversity. Whether the essay is from a long-term body of work that has take the photojournalist months or even years to build trust & produce an important essay on a social issue or a 5 day royal trip abroad, SPOTLIGHT will give it a space to be seen.

Sir Harold Evans 1928 - 2020

Sir Harold Evans, died earlier this month at the age of 92 - many obituaries have listed his huge achievements in a remarkable career, a man who said when he was the Editor of The Times that he edited a paper his grandfather would have been unable to read. Tim Bishop recalls the man.

John Downing 1940 - 2020

Earlier this month, the industry and The BPPA lost one of our greats with the death of John Downing, one of the finest photojournalists the United Kingdom has ever produced. For the latest in our Spotlight series, The BPPA’s Board member Jonathan Buckmaster writes a fitting tribute to his friend and colleague of many years.

Lynne Cameron at the 2019 Rugby World Cup

The ninth Rugby World Cup took place in Asia for the first time with 44 action packed days of rugby. BPPA member Lynne, covering her third Rugby World Cup and second in a year ( as she is also the England Women’s Football photographer ) documented the tournament from first to last try.

Keith Morris

With the launch of The BPPA’s all new ‘SPOTLIGHT’ series, a regular online gallery highlighting the huge diversity of work from our ever-increasing membership, we open with a set of images submitted for entry into The BPPA’s Assignments 2019 exhibition from Aberystwyth-based freelance editorial photographer Keith Morris.

Keith covered his region well for over thirty years and as his Assignments 2019 entries show, living on the beautiful western coast he was a very sharp and well-respected operator who regularly brought Aberystwyth’s community and outlying areas to readers’ attention in publications both nationally and worldwide.

What makes this gallery so unique is that Keith tragically passed away at the beginning of October, so we at The BPPA consider it very fitting to pay tribute to our esteemed colleague by showing a gallery of his entries into Assignments 2019.

Yours,

Lindsey Parnaby, Chair
The BPPA
